Seminar for teachers: The techniques of close reading
This seminar gives a detailed demonstration of how an act of close reading is carried out. The text of Roddy Doyle’s short story “The Dinner” will be indepthed to show how a narrative achieves its emotional and intellectual effects and how viewpoint, characterization and the unfurling of action all contribute to making a tale of particular strength and insight.
