Shakespeare’s tragedies: the stage of fools
The aim of this lecture is to illustrate how the Elizabethans drew on sources both classical and nonclassical to produce the unique emotional breadth and depth of their impelling tragic vision, as famously exemplified by the two masterpieces, King Lear and Macbeth.
