"Rebranding the past"
In our consumer-coded culture, rebranding signals a revamping of worn-out forms as varied as locations, pop-groups and political ideology, hereby stressing novelty, validity and utility. This seminar presents various cases which have made significant contributions to Britain today, from the development of the industrial wasteland of Wigan Pier to the constant restlessness of the major Britpop group Oasis and Tony Blair’s efforts to steer the Labour Party away from the extreme left.
