Which administration centre shall I contact depending on test location?

Depending on where you choose to take your test, your registration will be handled by the Milan or Rome office as per following chart:

Which is the test venue address and the exam timetable?

You will receive an email 5-7 days before the test date with details on test venue address. This email will also indicate the timetable of the written parts and the speaking part.

Candidates are generally required to arrive at the test venue at 8.00-8.15 for candidate identity verification.

 

What is the structure and timing of the test?

IELTS is made up of 4 parts:

Listening: there are 4 sections, 40 questions total. It takes 30 minutes and it is the same for both  Academic and General training modules;

Reading: there are 3 sections, 40 questions total. It takes 60 minutes and it varies depending on the module you chose, Academic or General Training;

Writing: there are 2 tasks. You are required to write at least 150 words for Task 1 and at least 250 words for Task 2. It takes 60 minutes and it varies depending on the module  Academic or General Training;

Speaking: it is a conversation between the candidate and one examiner in a closed room. It takes 11 to 14 minutes.  

The first three parts *Listening, Reading and Writing are completed on the same day, one after the other, and start at 9 a.m. However, you must arrive at the test location one hour before for candidate identity verification. 

The speaking module may be taken on the same day as the written parts, or on a different day in the period of seven days before or seven days after the written part of the test. Timetable of the speaking part will be mentioned in the email you will receive 5-7 days before the test day.

Please note that the possibility of having the speaking part on the same day as the written part cannot be guaranteed.

I cannot upload my ID document on my application

If you have any problem with uploading your ID document during online registration please contact us by selecting “Assistance for online registration, ID upload, payment” 

We remind you that you must upload the same ID document (valid passport or ID card) as mentioned on your application form and the same ID document must be shown on the test day. The scan copy must be in colour and must include the parts of the document with photograph of the bearer, signature, ID document number and personal details. Please note that you must bring the original document on your test day. Your document must be integral and undivided. Should you present a damaged document on the test day it may result in you not being able to sit the exam.

I could not pay online while applying

You will receive a confirmation email once your application has been completed. Please check also the spam folder of your email account. The payment can be made online during online application or within 1 working day after online registration. You can also pay on the phone by credit or debit card.

 If after completing the online application form you have any problems with online payment by credit card please contact us by selecting “Assistance for online registration, ID upload, payment”. Our Customer Service team will get back to you as soon as possible.  

 

How can I change test date or venue?

Up to 14 days before the test day you may transfer your test to any next date or venue available, only within the dates in the same calendar year (from 1st January to 31st December), by paying a transfer fee of 35€. 

To ask for a transfer please phone the administration centre responsible for the test location you chose – see chart below. The transfer fee can be paid by credit or debit card.

I am enrolled in the last IELTS session in December. May I postpone my test date?

It is possible to transfer your test date within the calendar year (from 1st January to 31st December); therefore we cannot transfer your test date to a session later than 31st December.

I cannot attend the IELTS test. May I ask for a refund?

Candidates who choose to cancel their IELTS test application will be refunded 75% of the test fee, provided they deliver the original request to the test centre no more than 5 weeks prior to the test date.

Candidates who are absent on the test day for medical reasons or bereavement can be refunded 75% of the test fee, provided they deliver the original request to the test centre no later than 5 working days after the test date  together with the appropriate evidence (i.e. medical certificate, death certificate).

To apply for a refund, you must download, fill in and then print and sign the "Refund Claim Form" you find at the bottom of this page, and send the original of it,  together with the original copy of the evidence, by post to the centre where you took the test (Milan or Rome).

When are results and certificates issued?

Normally, you will be able to preview your results online here 13 days after the written test day. Results and performance feedback will be available up to 40 days after the test day.

Your Test Report Form will be also posted to you 13 days after the date of the main test day. Delivery times may vary from 3 to 15 working days for Italy.

Alternatively, if you indicated “Don’t send” on the envelope upon test day, you will be able to collect your certificate at British Council in Milan or Rome (depending on where you took your test).

You will not be able to obtain your results over the phone, by email or by fax.

 

Do you send TRF copies to universities?

We can send a copy of your Test Report Form up to 5 receiving organisation for free for the first two years after your test. If you have not already provided the details of the organisations, please contact us choosing “Certificates/Test Report Form copies for universities”, specifying the name of the recognising organisation, department, address and, if possible, a contact person.

May I receive more than one copy of my certificate?

You will receive only one copy of your Test Report Form. Replacement copies are not issued in the event of loss or damage.

What can I do if I am unhappy with my test results?

You can apply for a re-mark (Enquiry on Results - EOR) within six weeks of the test date. The enquiry fee is 110€. To apply for the Enquiry on Results, you must download, print and fill the EOR Form you find at the bottom of this page, and send it together with the original copy of your IELTS certificate by post to the centre where you took the test (Milan or Rome). Our Customer Service will contact you and provide further instructions for the payment of the EOR fee. 

Please consider we cannot accept requests received by email or fax, and it is responsibility of the candidate to ensure materials arrive within the deadline.

You will receive a reply via email approximately within 8 weeks, except for any administrative delay. The enquiry fee will be fully refunded if your bands score improves. 

Please note that it is not possible either to have a qualitative feedback of the exam or see the test.

Does the IELTS certificate expire?

The IELTS TRF (test report form) does not indicate an expiry date, but the date in which you sat the exam. Organisations usually accept certificates not older than 2 years, because the level of English may change over time. In any case, they can decide autonomously the scores validity period.

Is it possible to re – take the IELTS test?

There are no restrictions on re-taking IELTS. You can register for a test as soon as you feel you are ready to do so. If you sit the exam twice or more and scores are different, you can use the certificate with the best result.

I am underaged. What should I do?

If you are an under 18 candidate, you will receive the Minor Consent Form, together with your timetable. This must be signed by your parents or legal guardian in order to let you take the test, and returned to us by email. If you do not have the possibility to send it by email within the established deadline, you will have to bring the original on the day of the first test component you will attend (speaking or written tests). Please follow the instructions which you will receive in the email.
