London Brass has an unrivalled reputation for performances of outstanding virtuosity – the musicians are at the top of the profession and name among them principal horn of the Royal Opera House, principal trumpet with the Halle Orchestra, principal trombone of the Philharmonia Orchestra and have, between them, recorded on countless film soundtracks and toured with the likes of Tina Turner, Sting, Paul McCartney, Robbie Williams, Tom Jones and many others.
The London Brass programme includes music from the time of Shakespeare or compositions inspired by his works and includes traditional jazz pieces alongside classical works revisited for a brass band.
The concert opens with a selection of airs and dances by John Dowland, who it is believed was an acquaintance of Shakespeare’s.
The concerti s enriched by the inclusion of a piece from Mendelsshon’s “A Midsummer Night's Dream”, which the composer began in his youth and only completed in maturity and which is now considered a masterpiece of the romantic repertory.
