The London Brass programme includes music from the time of Shakespeare or compositions inspired by his works and includes traditional jazz pieces alongside classical works revisited for a brass band.
The concert opens with a selection of airs and dances by John Dowland, who it is believed was an acquaintance of Shakespeare’s.
The concerti s enriched by the inclusion of a piece from Mendelsshon’s “A Midsummer Night's Dream”, which the composer began in his youth and only completed in maturity and which is now considered a masterpiece of the romantic repertory.
