Online teacher training and resources

If you are an English language teacher or English Language Teaching (ELT) professional, we have lots of online resources to support your work.

If you are an English language teacher, an English Language Teaching (ELT) professional or a subject teacher teaching in English then you can choose from our online teacher training courses and resources to support your work. We provide support, courses and free of charge resources for both pre-service and in-service training.

We can work with you to review your training curricula, systems and structures, including school-practice and mentoring, and provide online and printed training materials.

Teacher training

We offer a range of online teacher training courses covering areas such as primary and secondary teaching, learning technologies and other subjects. We offer both moderated and self-access courses. 

  • Moderated courses are online courses led by a British Council e-moderator who is an experienced online teacher trainer. You will work with a group of teachers from around the world.
  • Self-access courses are online courses you can start at any time.

NEW: Primary Essentials (moderated courses)

Primary Essentials provides an introduction to teaching English to young learners aged 7 to 11. Using video, audio and community elements, you will learn the essentials to help you succeed in your teaching of young learners.

Aimed at

Teachers of English teaching young learners aged 7-11 years old.

CLIL Essentials (moderated courses)

The course is suitable for experienced primary and secondary school teachers, either language teachers supporting subject teachers or subject teachers working in a CLIL context.

Primary and Secondary school teachers who are either language teachers supporting subject teachers or subject teachers working in a CLIL context .

Duration

50 hour online moderated British Council teacher training course 20 core units each with 12 hours of guided learning.

Learning Technologies for Business English Teachers (self-access)

Learning Technologies are increasingly important for business English teachers. This course has been designed to give both experienced and new business English teachers an introduction to the types of tools that can enhance their teaching and help them deliver engaging  lessons with sound pedagogical outcomes.

If you're finishing your studies to be a teacher or are in your first two years of teaching, then you will benefit from this course. It will help you make the transition from student teacher to professional and put the theory that you have learned into practice.

Special Educational Needs (self-access)

It is designed to give you an overview of the different special educational needs. The activities are primarily aimed at supporting learners identified as having SEN (special educational needs).

Teachers of English teaching primary and lower secondary learners and teachers teaching through the medium of English.
