Cantiere Internazionale d’Arte was founded in 1976 by Hans Werner Henze  promotes interaction between international professionals and young talents who express themselves in a creative setting surrounded by the marvels of Montepulciano's architecture and landscape.

This year's edition is inspired by the theme of Nature and Technology under the artistic direction of Maestro Roland Böer and sees the absolute première of the opera Icarus by David Blake, written and staged by Keith Warner. The work  wonders about the modern human condition, terrorism, journalism, love and finally about truth. The talent of Blake, the quality of the cast, the brilliant performance of the Manchester Royal Northern College of Music Chamber Ensemble and the direction of Roland Böer make the opera very current.
